How prayer notifications work on iPhone and Android
Understand app installation, push permission, scheduled reminders, and what to check when an alert is late.
Installation and permissions are separate
You can browse Noor Al-Islam without installing it. Receiving background Web Push depends on your device and browser. On supported iPhone versions, Web Push requires opening a web app added to the Home Screen.
On Android, Chrome can offer “Install app”; sometimes it only offers a Home Screen shortcut. After opening the installed app, enable notifications using its control and approve the operating system prompt if you want reminders.
What kinds of messages are sent?
With permission, the app may send a regular notification when a prayer time begins, based on your chosen city, calculation method, and selected prayers. Project administrators may also send relevant messages. This does not require playing the full adhan audio in the background.
Times depend on the selected city and calculation settings. Check both if you travel, and ensure the phone time and time zone are correct.
How schedules continue
A backend service stores upcoming prayer times for devices that opt in and renews the schedule regularly. This does not guarantee every alert will be displayed: disconnected phones, focus modes, and battery restrictions may delay or suppress notifications.
A scheduled test from the diagnostics view is sent to your registered device only. It is marked as a test and is not a real prayer reminder.
If a reminder does not arrive
Confirm that Noor Al-Islam is permitted to send notifications in system settings. Check Focus or Do Not Disturb, connectivity, and whether you opened the same installed web app.
Use the prayer diagnostics. If a local test works but a server test does not, registration may need renewal. If the server accepts a test but the phone does not show it, inspect system permissions and power-saving settings.
Privacy and control
You can disable notifications in device settings or select individual prayer reminders in the app. When enabled, a subscription endpoint and prayer calculation settings are saved by the service to schedule alerts.
Read the privacy policy for retention details and ways to request deletion. Notification permission is optional.
